Winter sports aren't what come to mind when most people think of Belgium, but the country's south-east counts many ski trails. Belgium has 10 alpine resorts, the highest peak is only 694m, but the cross-country trails attract most visitors. De most beautiful trails are found in the Hautes Fagnes nature reserve.

The biggest skiresort is Baraque de Fraiture with excellent slopes for beginners and families. There are also opportunities for night-skiing, sledging, snowboarding and snowscooter. Visitors are advised to check snow coverage.

All stations are popular when enough snow has fallen. The après-ski in the Belgian Ardennes has a quality all of its own: the culinary specialities include and the many special beer variaties.
