Skiing in Poland

Facts about Poland:
Highest point: Rysy 2499 m.
Language: Polish
Currency: PLN
Population: 38 million
Capital:Warsaw
Pre-dial: 0048

Poland offers a choice of dozens of mostly small ski centres, many of them in the Tatra mountains along the southern borders of this northerly country on the Baltic sea, although there are several famous resorts including Zakopane.

These attract many Poles as well as international guests from particularly from Germany, the Ukraine and Russia and in recent years increasing numbers of visitors from Great Britain and Scandinavia.

In some places skiing is possible as early as the end of November, but the real winter season starts in the middle of December and usually ends in the middle of March.

Ski slopes in Poland rarely exceed a length of one kilometre and in a medium-sized ski resort there will only be a few lifts. Many resorts have been investing in new lifts and in artificial snowmaking in recent years to ensure a quality experience. Night skiing is popular and there are usually lots of other activities too, but be aware that in many resorts you still may only be able to pay with cash as credit cards are not very widely accepted.

Many ski resorts have kept their mountainous nature and character. In mountain restaurants you can eat traditional food, which will certainly satisfy many tourists.
